Video Gamers to Help Charity

A group of high school gamers is taking its love of video games to a whole new level.

It has been almost a year in the making and the Campbell Collegiate students behind the unique fundraiser, Regina’s Got Game, are anxious to see the final results.

“We’re really excited about it and a little nervous,” said Alexandre Trottier.

He is the brains behind the Hospitals of Regina Foundation (HRF) fundraiser because he wanted to find a “cool” way to fulfil volunteer hours for the International Baccalaureate diploma program he’s enrolled in at Campbell. The avid gamer then recruited six friends from his class to help him get the event off the ground.

The entrance fee to the event is $10 per person, which will entitle a person a chance to participate in up to four gaming tournaments, a trivia challenge and a silent auction. There will also be music and food available for those in attendance.

There will be approximately 10 different game tournaments, and depending on how many people are in attendance, they may run two tournaments for each game.

Trottier came up with the idea in August, but work on obtaining sponsorship didn’t start until earlier this year.
